Pleasants Energy Announces Open House
ST. MARYS, WV -- Pleasants Energy, LLC (Pleasants
Energy), a subsidiary of Dominion Resources, will hold an informational open
house for the Pleasants Energy electric peaking plant on May 22nd beginning
at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton Meeting Room of the Pleasants County Library. Representatives
from Pleasants Energy will provide information on the proposed state-of-the-art
power generating station and be available to answer questions. Pleasants Energy
will be located in the Pleasants County Industrial Center adjacent to Route
2 in the Grant District of Pleasants County.
The power plant is designed as a “peaking” facility that
will produce electricity when the demand exceeds the capability of conventional
electric generation. For example, on hot summer days when there is dramatic
increase in the use of air conditioning, the Pleasants Energy facility would
be operated to supply the electricity required to meet the increased demand.
The plant will have the capability of generating approximately
300 megawatts of power through the use of two simple cycle General Electric
turbines and will tie directly into an on-site electric grid system. The natural
gas required to operate the turbines will be supplied by Dominion, and fuel
oil will used as a secondary fuel source.
Pleasants Energy has received the majority of the required
permits. Construction will begin in the spring of 2001 and the plant will be
operational by the summer of 2002. This is one of seven electric generating
plants presently being developed by Dominion.
Dominion Resources, the parent company of Pleasants Energy,
has extensive experience building and operating this type of facility. Dominion
is the nation’s largest fully integrated electric power and natural gas company.
It has nearly 4 million gas and electric retail customers in five states, 20,000
megawatts of electric generating capacity and more than 3 trillion cubic feet
of natural gas and oil reserves.
