Dominion Adds 250,000 Electricity Customers In Philadelphia Area
RICHMOND, Va. - Dominion (NYSE:D), one of the nation's largest
energy suppliers, will provide generation service to approximately 250,000 residential
customers in PECO Energy's Philadelphia service area through a Market Share
Threshold process approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
"We welcome Philadelphia area residents to the growing
family of Dominion customers," said Thos. E. Capps, Dominion's chairman,
president and chief executive officer. "The only difference they will see
under this program is a lower electricity bill."
Dominion will notify by mail the customers randomly selected
for the program. Generation service will begin December 1 and customers will
get a discount on the generation portion of their PECO bill.
Dominion will provide the electricity, but PECO will continue
to deliver it to homes. Also, PECO will continue to provide one bill and be
responsible for emergency response, wires to the home, meter reads, bill payment
and related services.
Dominion will now have more than 5.2 million customers, including
nearly 1 million in Pennsylvania. Dominion owns a natural gas utility serving
western Pennsylvania, a 600-megawatt power station in Armstrong County and is
building a 1,200-megawatt power station in Bucks County.
"Adding new energy customers is a part of our integrated
strategy and will provide a home for our electricity generation," Capps
said.
Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers of energy,
with a diversified and integrated energy portfolio that includes more than 24,000
megawatts of generation and 6.3 trillion cubic feet equivalent of proved natural
gas reserves. For more information about Dominion, visit the company's web site
