Dominion Virginia Power Is State’s Largest
Taxpayer In 2001
RICHMOND, Va. – Dominion Virginia Power paid $102.2 million
in state and local taxes in 2001, making the utility the largest single taxpayer
in the Commonwealth.
The 2001 payments included property tax payments of $98.2
million, use taxes of $3.8 million and Virginia unemployment taxes of $250,000.
The company’s largest single property tax payment for the
year, $10.99 million, went to Louisa County, home to the company’s North Anna
Power Station. Surry County had the second largest payment, $10.94 million;
Fairfax County was third with $8.53 million. Chesterfield County received $7.31
million, the fourth highest amount.
Other localities receiving more than $1 million each were:
City of Chesapeake, $6.10 million; Prince William County, $5.53 million; Bath
County, $4.25 million; Henrico County $3.98 million, City of Virginia Beach,
$3.94 million; City of Richmond, $3.63 million; York County, $2.93 million;
City of Norfolk, $2.36 million; Fauquier County, $2.29 million; Loudoun County,
$1.85 million; City of Newport News, $1.65 million; Arlington County, $1.61
million; City of Hampton, $1.31 million; City of Alexandria, $1.23 million and
City of Portsmouth, $1.02 million.
