Dominion Generation And Virginia Power Boards Announce Officer Changes

RICHMOND, Va. – The Dominion Generation board of directors and Virginia Power board of directors have elected Edward J. Rivas to the offices of senior vice president-Fossil & Hydro, Dominion Generation, and senior vice president-Fossil &am p; Hydro, Virginia Power, effective immediately.

Rivas, 55, was one of three officer appointments the boards made Sept. 20. The boards also named Martin L. Bowling, Jr., vice president-Virginia Power Nuclear Services, to succeed Rivas as vice president-Fossil & Hydro Operations, Dominion Generation, and vice president-Fossil & Hydro Operations, Virginia Power.

In the third appointment, the boards for the first time in the company's history elected an officer whose sole responsibility is overseeing the company's environmental programs. Pamela F. Faggert, manager-Environmental Policy & Compliance, was promoted Oct. 1 to the new position, vice president and chief environmental officer, for both Dominion Generation and Virginia Power.

Rivas succeeded W. Robert Cartwright, executive vice president-Fossil & Hydro, Dominion Generation, and senior vice president-Fossil & Hydro, Virginia Power, who retired Aug. 31 after 34 years with the company.

Dominion Generation, a unit of Dominion Resources Inc. (NYSE: D), manages the U.S. electric generating power stations of Virginia Power and Dominion Energy, two subsidiaries of Dominion Resources. Virginia Power provides electricity to more than 2 million customers in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, where it is known as North Carolina Power.

Rivas joined Virginia Power in 1978 as an engineer at Surry Power Station. In 1980, he was transferred to the company's Fossil & Hydro group, where he has held numerous supervisory and management positions at Chesterfield Power Station, Power Operations Training Center and Clover Power Station.  He was named vice president in 1997. A Texas native, Rivas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Central New England College in Massachusetts.

Bowling, 54, joined Virginia Power in 1975 in its nuclear organization. Among his previous positions were assistant station manager at North Anna Power and manager-Nuclear Licensing and Operations Support. He assumed his present position in 1996. Bowling received his bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy in 1974. He earned masters degrees in nuclear engineering and political science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1971, and a MBA in 1983 from the University of Richmond.

Faggert, 42, came to work for Virginia Power in 1994 as director-System Lab in the Water Quality Department. Prior to accepting her position with the company she worked for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality as director-Air Division. She was named manager earlier this year. Faggert holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia and a MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Cartwright's retirement marks the culmination of a 34-year career with the company. A native of Elizabeth City, N.C., Cartwright joined Virginia Power as an engineer, serving at Portsmouth and Mt. Storm Power Stations. After several supervisory positions, he was transferred to North Anna Power Station in 1974. He was named superintendent-Station Operations at North Anna in 1976 and became station manager in 1978.

Cartwright became manager-Nuclear Operations Support in 1983, manager-Maintenance and Performance Services in 1985, vice president-Fossil & Hydro in 1986, and vice president-Nuclear Operations in September 1988. He was re-appointed to vice president-Fossil & Hydro in 1990. He assumed his current position on July 1, 1995, and was named executive vice president-Fossil & Hydro of Dominion Generation, a unit of Dominion Resources, upon its formation on May 1, 1999.
